(Fort Worth,
TX) — HEALTHPOINT, Ltd., a Texas-based market leader in tissue
management, dermatology, and surgical products, has announced that
its OASIS Wound Matrix will be profiled in an educational series
hosted by Morley Safer and broadcast on selected public television
stations nationwide. The segment featuring OASIS, a naturally derived,
extracellular matrix used in the management of a variety of wounds,
will begin airing on the American Medical Review series this summer.
“Wounds represent a substantial burden in our aging society,
and OASIS Wound Matrix is a cutting-edge option in the wound care
field,” said
Dwayne Dixon, Group Marketing Director, Wound Preparation and Healing,
HEALTHPOINT. “We are pleased that American Medical Review recognizes
the importance of this topic and has chosen to profile this remarkable
product and what it can do for patients struggling with chronic and
acute wounds and burns. By taking our message directly to the afflicted
patients or their families, we believe that they can become more
educated and involved in their wound care.”
The segment was shot on location at the Lucerne Wound Healing Center
in Orlando, Florida, and features interviews with Walter Conlan,
MD, and Dot Weir, RN, CWOCN, both experts in wound care and product
experts on OASIS.
OASIS Wound Matrix is used in the management of partial and full-thickness
wounds, such as pressure, venous and chronic vascular ulcers, diabetic
ulcers, surgical and trauma wounds, second-degree burns, abrasions,
and autograft donor sites.
The OASIS Wound Matrix is based on SISâ Technology, a naturally
derived, extracellular matrix created from the submucosal layer of
porcine small intestine. The submucosa (found between the mucosal
and muscular layers) provides strength to the intestine through a
complex organization of structural and functional proteins and other
molecules that forms a three-dimensional matrix. The submucosa is
extracted in a manner that removes all cells but leaves the complex
matrix intact. This natural matrix supports the body’s healing
process by providing an acellular scaffold that accommodates remodeling
of host tissue. This biomaterial combines remarkable strength, flexible
handling, and a complex composition.
“American Medical Review explores the latest advances in health
and wellness, concentrating on issues affecting both medical professionals
and consumers,” said Lars Goode, associate producer.
The series that includes OASIS will be provided to all 345 public
television stations nationwide to be aired as a news break. Syndicated
market by market and reaching over 30 million households, stories
in the series are typically aired multiple times during peak and
prime time programming. They are also aired internationally via satellite
on WorldNet (U.S. Government News and Information Service), which
reaches hundreds of television and broadcast systems in over 127
countries.
