(Fort Worth,
TX, USA) — HEALTHPOINT, Ltd., a Texas-based market leader in
tissue management, dermatology, and surgical products, has signed a
distribution agreement for Mexico City-based TH Medical to market HEALTHPOINT’s
Trizenol product line as well as the patented wound matrix product,
OASIS®, in Mexico.
This is HEALTHPOINT’s first distribution agreement in Mexico.
“TH Medical is very pleased to be HEALTHPOINT’s partner
in Mexico,” said
Hugo Monroy-Sanchez, CEO, TH Medical. “We believe there is significant
market opportunity for innovative products such as the wound matrix
as an effective and safe alternative in advanced wound management.”
“We believe there is also significant market opportunity for
innovative skin asepsis products that help reduce hospital infections,” added
Tere Ponce, Project Development and Training Manager, TH Medical.
“This agreement establishes a firm foundation for HEALTHPOINT
to extend its patented wound matrix technology and its innovative skin
asepsis
technology while providing a platform for future growth in Mexico,” said
Jay Nisbet, Senior Director of International Business Development for
HEALTHPOINT. Benjamin Vicuña, Director of International Business
Development, will work with Mr. Nisbet to explore growth opportunities.
HEALTHPOINT’s TrizenolTM technology, a fast-acting and persistent
topical antiseptic, is the first introduced in the field of surgical
skin asepsis since the introduction of chlorhexidine gluconate in the
1970s. Chlorhexidine gluconate was heretofore recognized as the leading
active for surgical scrubs and patient preparation for surgery.
Trizenol’s name is derived from its three key elements: an alcohol
active, an emollient for the skin, and a preservative – zinc
pythrione.
HEALTHPOINT’s TRISEPTIN®, the brush-free scrubTM, contains
Trizenol
technology.
“TRISEPTIN raises the standard of care for surgical scrubbing,” said
H. Paul Dorman, HEALTHPOINT Chairman and CEO. “We are delighted to have
T.H. Medical as our partner to take this technology into this extensive market.”
HEALTHPOINT says that its patented formulation provides performance characteristics
beyond chlorhexidine gluconate (4% CHG) and iodophor (7.5%PVP-I), the two traditional
surgical scrub formulations used in hospitals across the U.S.
HEALTHPOINT signed an exclusive, worldwide agreement for OASIS with Indiana-based
COOK Biotech Inc., a leading manufacturer of tissue-engineered biomaterials for
numerous medical and surgical applications, early last year and initially marketed
OASIS in the U.S. Marketing efforts were extended to Canada late last year. Discussions
for the marketing of OASIS in other international markets are currently in process.
COOK Biotech will continue to manufacture OASIS.
Based on COOK’s breakthrough Small Intestinal Submucosa, or SIS technology,
OASIS is a natural, extracellular matrix, a new biomaterial which provides a
supportive environment that allows a patient’s body to rebuild and repair
damaged tissue.
“OASIS is an intact, organic, biologically-derived matrix that is readily
accepted
by the body’s immunologic system without the rejection sometimes demonstrated
by other reconstituted collagen dressings,” explained Dwayne Dixon, Group
Marketing Director, Wound Preparation and Healing for HEALTHPOINT.
OASIS can be used in the management of partial and full-thickness skin loss injuries,
such as pressure, venous, and chronic vascular ulcers; diabetic ulcers; surgical
and trauma wounds; second degree burns; abrasions; and, autograft donor sites.
