| (Fort
Worth, TX) --- HEALTHPOINT, Ltd., Surgical Division, a DFB Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. company, will announce the launch of SURGICEPT™ Waterless
Surgical Hand Antiseptic at the Association of periOperative Registered
Nurses (AORN) 53rd Congress in Washington, D.C., which begins Tuesday,
March 21, 2006. SURGICEPT is the latest member of HEALTHPOINT’s
popular, brush free, antisepsis product line.
HEALTHPOINT, the company that innovated brush free surgical scrubbing
with TRISEPTIN® in 1996, is a recognized leader in products formulated
for protection.
Last October, HEALTHPOINT completed a license agreement with Columbia
University and purchased Mycrocept Corporation’s product line,
most notably the SURGICEPT brush free waterless surgical hand antiseptic.
“The SURGICEPT formulas offer unique and vital characteristics
for efficacy and user preference,” said Lawton Seal, PhD, senior
program manager for HEALTHPOINT. “The SURGICEPT product goes
on quickly, is fast drying, and has exceptional customer feedback and
user acceptance.”
The HEALTHPOINT license agreement with Columbia and acquisition of
Mycrocept’s line provides HEALTHPOINT Surgical Division SURGICEPT,
a proven product, and also a unique docket of concepts and ideas that
will be utilized to expand HEALTHPOINT’s current product portfolio.
“Additionally, the relationship with Columbia provides HEALTHPOINT access
to some of the industry’s leading resources in the areas of skin asepsis,” Dr.
Seal continued.
Through this access, Dr. Seal joined Columbia’s Shanta Modak, PhD and Cenk
Cayci, MD of the Department of Surgery, College of Physicians and Surgeons, to
survey AORN operating room (OR) nursing personnel members regarding awareness
and adherence to AORN guidelines, utilization of waterless, alcohol-based hand
rubs, skin-friendliness, and limitations of current products. In December 2005,
746 surveys were completed and tabulated.
“The efficacy of waterless, alcohol-based hand rub agents is clinically
proven,” remarked
Dr. Seal. “However, the product’s efficacy is compromised when not
used properly. From our survey, we learned that a combination of factors led
to improper product usage including limited understanding of AORN Guidelines
and product instruction labels; time constraints in the OR setting; and level
of satisfaction of available products.”
“Nurses and doctors must like the product’s attributes so that the
product
will be used properly,” said Steve Owens, Director of Marketing, HEALTHPOINT
Surgical Division. “The reason we are so thrilled to launch SURGICEPT is
that it’s clinically proven and provides OR personnel with product characteristics
they want. The easy to apply, quick to dry formulation is designed to minimize
sticky build up, slipping under the glove and improve skin condition. This promises
success in surgical hand antisepsis.”
