The Covey’s Cowboy Lager Named Regional Champion,
United States Beer Tasting Championship

Who: The Covey Restaurant & Brewery

What: Cowboy Lager named Champion, Dortmunder/Helles* category for Rockies/Southwest region.

Where: 13th Annual United States Beer Tasting Championship (USBTC) in
Manchester, New Hampshire.

When: Summer 2007

How: The USBTC competition is held in multiple stages. This allows beers to be judged in
relatively small flights while ensuring that the best beers are determined through
head-to-head competition. All beers were tasted in blinded fashion and judged on a
hedonic scale (scale ranges from “like extremely” to “dislike extremely”).
A total of 421 beers from 169 breweries were examined across 12 beer categories.
Within each category, the USBTC determined both an overall grand champion and six
regional champions.

A total of 405 beers from 141 breweries were examined across 13 beer categories. Within each category, the USBTC determined both an overall grand champion and six regional champions.

Details: Experience The Covey’s award-winning Cowboy Lager for yourself, returning to The
Covey mid-November.
*Note: Helles is a German word meaning “light in color.” A Helles is a German beer that is medium in body and low in bitterness. A Dortmunder is a beer that is brewed in Dortmund, Germany. Dortmund is known for their export style beers, which usually means they are hoppier and stronger.
