The Covey – Only Texas Brewery to Take Home
United States Beer Tasting Championship Win

Who: The Covey Restaurant & Brewery

What: Vienna Lager named Champion, Vienna/Marzen Lager* category for Rockies/Southwest region; Jack’s Reserve Barleywine receives honorable mention, Barleywine** category for Rockies/Southwest region. The Covey Restaurant & Brewery was only brewery in Texas to rank.

Where: 14th Annual Winter United States Beer Tasting Championship (USBTC) in Princeton, New Jersey

When: Winter 2008

How: The USBTC competition is held in multiple stages. This allows beers to be judged in relatively small flights while ensuring that the best beers are determined through head-to-head competition. All beers were tasted in blinded fashion and judged on a hedonic scale (scale ranges from “like extremely” to “dislike extremely”).

A total of 405 beers from 141 breweries were examined across 13 beer categories. Within each category, the USBTC determined both an overall grand champion and six regional champions.

Details: Experience The Covey’s award-winning Vienna Lager and Jack’s Reserve Barleywine for yourself at The Covey. Also try The Covey’s Cowboy Lager, named summer 2007 Rockies/Southwest region Champion in the Dortmunder/Helles category.
*Vienna lager is a reddish-brown or copper colored beer with medium body and slight malt sweetness. **Barleywine, a style of strong ale that originated in England, is as strong as a wine but since it is made from a grain is in fact a beer.
