Imagination Celebration Thinks They Can Dance!
11th Annual Debbie Allen Dance Institute Coming to TCU June 7-20,
2009
Two-Week Workshops Teach Kids Wide Range of Disciplines,
Transform Young Lives
(FORT
WORTH, TEX)… Once again, students can dance with the star this
June, thanks to Imagination Celebration Fort Worth.
Now in its 11th year in Fort Worth,
the Debbie Allen Dance Institute, founded by star Debbie Allen and
ICFW Executive Director Ginger Gearheart, will host promising young
artists for daily classes during the two weeks beginning June 7,
2009
at Texas Christian University. At the culmination of the program,
the students will have two performances in TCU’s Ed Landreth
Hall on June 19 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Students ages seven to 21 will have
the opportunity to study ballet, tap, modern, hip hop, and African
disciplines in daily workshops scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
with Ms. Allen and various instructors she selects.
Debbie Allen is an acclaimed director,
producer and choreographer who was honored with the Texas Medal of
the Arts for dance. During her career, Ms. Allen received two Emmy
Awards and a Golden Globe for her role on the television series Fame,
two Tony nominations for her roles in the revivals of Sweet Charity
and West Side Story, and the first Lena Horne Award for Career Achievement.
She continues to work extensively in television, film and theatre.
“The Debbie Allen Dance Institute
promotes dance as a foundation to nurture the creative spirit within
each student,” said Ms. Gearheart, founder of the 21-year-old
non-profit that has reached over four million individuals with programming
across the arts. “This experience stresses the importance of
exposure to all art disciplines for lifelong success in academic and
personal achievement.”

with ICFW by either filling out the application online at www.icfw.org
or by calling 817-870-1141. Tuition and fees total $525.00 and financial
scholarships are available.
DADI Alumni have gone on to dance with
such companies as the American Ballet Theater, The Kirov, The San
Francisco Ballet, The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Bruce Wood Dance
Company, on Broadway, in major motion pictures, and on cruise ships.
They’ve even won competitions such as Fox’s “So
You Think You Can Dance.”
Debbie Allen became involved with Kennedy
Center’s Imagination Celebration program when she directed Pepito’s
Story, performed in Bass Performance Hall it’s opening season.
When the production became a great success, Ms. Allen desired to continue
to work with Imagination Celebration’s Fort Worth organization,
and with the assistance of Ms. Gearheart, she founded the Debbie Allen
Dance Institute.
Established in 1987 in collaboration
with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Fort Worth Independent
School District, and the City of Fort Worth, Imagination Celebration
Fort Worth is an independent non-profit educational and arts organization.
Imagination Celebration creates and provides curriculum-related arts/cultural
educational experiences to students utilizing a network of professional
artists and cultural arts organizations. Since its inception, Imagination
Celebration has touched over four million students, their teachers
and families with its exceptional, award-winning programming. The
Fort Worth group has been a model for similar efforts around the world.
