"We are honored to have our world-renowned guests Frank Ticheli and Fred Hamilton joining us for this concert,” said Artistic Director Christopher Tucker. “Their music is an inspiration. It is an honor and a privilege to have them on stage with us at the concert.”

Frank Ticheli, Professor of Composition at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, is an alumnus of L.V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. His music has been described as being “optimistic and thoughtful” (Los Angeles Times), “lean and muscular” (New York Times), “brilliantly effective” (Miami Herald) and “powerful, deeply felt crafted with impressive flair and an ear for striking instrumental colors” (South Florida Sun-Sentinel). After graduating from Berkner High School, Mr. Ticheli earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Southern Methodist University. He went on to receive his master's and doctoral degrees in composition from the University of Michigan, where he studied under the tutelage of William Albright, Leslie Bassett, George Wilson, and William Bolcom. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Charles Ives Scholarship, the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship, National Band Association/Revelli Memorial Prize, the A. Austin Harding Award, and First Prize in the Texas Sesquicentennial Orchestral Composition Competition, the Britten-on-the-Bay Choral Composition Contest, and the Virginia CBDNA Symposium for New Band Music. His work, Angels in the Architecture, for concert band with soprano soloist, was commissioned by Kingsway International and received its premiere performance in July of 2008 by a massed band of young musicians from Australia and the U.S. at the Sydney Opera House.

Fred Hamilton is a guitarist, bassist, composer, recording artist, author, clinician, and professor in the Jazz Studies Division of the University of North Texas. Fred is an original member of the ensemble Brahma, featuring Poovalur Srinivasan on mridangam, Ed Smith on vibes, and Jamal Mohamed on percussion. Brahma plays a fusion of jazz, Indian, Arabic and Balinese styles. In this ensemble Fred plays banjo, acoustic guitar, and the Hindustani slide guitar. He has held positions on the faculties of Concordia College in Montreal (1984-85), St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia (1982-84), and Bowling Green State University in Ohio (1979-82).
